Dr. Birenbaum is a board-certified neonatologist with over 35 years of clinical, administrative, and academic experience. Often voted as a 'Top Doc' by Baltimore Magazine, he has directed two tertiary level neonatal intensive care units in Baltimore.  He served as President of the Maryland Chapter, and also served as Chair of its Committee on Fetus and Newborn and is active in the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) Perinatal Advisory Committee.
 
He has provided expert legal review for both defense and plaintiff attorneys, and is available for review of medical records.
 
Dr. Birenbaum's interests include quality improvement activities including the implementation and use of bubble CPAP, prevention of chronic lung disease, neonatal hypoglycemia, neonatal sepsis and neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis.
